Policies and notices
Clear rules for a small student learning community.
Effective July 20, 2026. These policies explain the account and submission practices.
Important launch boundary: Accounts are for people age 13 or older, and community questions and replies may appear publicly when posted. Reports are private; an administrator removes a reported post only when the report is upheld. Contributor applications are reviewed once; approval then permits that student to publish their own complete resources directly. These operational policies have not been represented as counsel-reviewed. Qualified privacy and copyright review is still required before expanding the service, treating it as mixed-audience or child-directed, admitting children under 13, or launching broad video contributions.
Privacy Notice
Students Teach Students is operated through this website and can be reached through the contact form. We collect only the information needed to run accounts, learning tools, community participation, support, and safety processes.
Eligibility check
Before the account form shows fields for a display name, email, password, or security challenge, it uses the birth date entered in your browser to check eligibility. The full birth date is not sent to us or stored. After email verification, the same local check is used to record only whether the account holder is age 13–17 or 18+, plus the applicable permission and policy-consent record. A member age 13–17 confirms that a parent or guardian has given permission; we do not collect that adult's identity or contact details. People under 13 may use public lessons but may not create an account, post to the community, or send the contact form themselves. A parent or guardian can contact the project on their behalf.
Information we process
- Email address, password-protected authentication records, email-verification state, and session/security logs.
- Display name, optional short bio, age band, guardian-permission confirmation for minors, and versioned consent timestamps.
- Saved and completed lessons, topic requests, community questions and replies, reports, blocks, contributor applications, draft resources, and review history.
- Contact-form name, reply email, category, message, submission reference, and anti-abuse signals.
- Basic technical information handled by hosting and security providers, such as IP address, browser/device information, request logs, and cookies or local storage required for sign-in and drafts.
How information is used
We use it to authenticate accounts, deliver verification and reset email, remember learning activity, review reports and contributor applications, respond to requests, prevent abuse, maintain the service, and meet safety or legal obligations. We do not sell personal information, run behavioral advertising, or use account activity to build advertising profiles.
Service providers and disclosure
Supabase provides authentication, database services, and the current account-email delivery method. OpenAI Sites/Cloudflare provide application hosting, delivery, and security. Those providers may process information under their own service and data-protection terms. We may also disclose limited information when reasonably necessary to protect a person, investigate abuse, comply with law, or respond to a valid legal request.
What becomes public
Your email, age band, saved lessons, drafts, and reports are not public. Community questions and replies may appear publicly when posted with your display name. After a contributor application is approved, complete resources that contributor publishes appear publicly with their display name. Do not submit a school name, schedule, address, phone number, private email, precise location, or another person’s personal information.
Retention and choices
Study-tool work is stored only in that browser, marked to expire after 30 days, and removed the next time that tool is opened; each tool also has a clear action. Anyone who uses the same browser profile may be able to see it. A pending email-confirmation address may be kept in that tab's session storage; it becomes unusable after 30 minutes and is removed when checked again. Topic-request drafts use tab-scoped session storage. Sign-in session data remains in the browser as needed to keep the account signed in, so use the local or all-devices sign-out controls and clear the browser on a shared device.
Account data remains while the account is active. Accounts created through this site's email sign-up flow are automatically deleted after seven days if unconfirmed. A verified email-sign-up account that never finishes the eligibility and policy step is automatically deleted 30 days after account creation. You can correct profile details and download an account export from the Account page. The export includes contact messages linked to your signed-in account along with your profile, learning activity, requests, community records, and contributor work.
When you permanently delete an account, ordinary private account data is deleted. Content needed to preserve another person's reply and active safety, copyright, moderation, or legal records may instead be archived so the review record is not destroyed. Public author labels are replaced where applicable, and ordinary ownership details on retained content, contact, and report records are disconnected from your user ID. A small number of restricted safety, legal, or rights-review records may temporarily keep an internal account identifier so staff can complete the review. An active private contact or report record may also contain the name, reply email, message, or details you submitted until its review and retention period end. That disconnection is not the same as anonymization, and a retained record may not disappear immediately.
Resolved or spam contact messages are deleted after 90 days for normal categories and after 365 days for safety or copyright categories. Unresolved normal-category contact messages are deleted 180 days after their last update; unresolved safety or copyright messages are deleted 730 days after their last update. Those contact deadlines pause while a documented legal hold is active. Hosting, authentication, email, security logs, and backups follow the controlled retention cycles of their providers. The exact production log, email, and backup periods must be documented and checked against the provider settings before external accounts are invited.
Resolved or dismissed content reports and routine records of administrator actions are deleted after 365 days. Anonymized archived community or contributor records are normally deleted after 365 days when no review remains open; a question needed to preserve another member's reply may remain, with its removed text reduced after that period. These periods are not a promise to keep a record for the full period when it can be safely deleted sooner.
Use the contact form to request access, correction, deletion, an appeal, consent withdrawal, or help that the self-service Account page does not provide.
Account Terms
By creating or using an account, you agree to these Terms and the Community Guidelines. If you are under 18, you also confirm that a parent or guardian has given you permission to use the account. Accounts are not available to people under 13.
- Use one account you are authorized to control and keep its password private.
- Provide a safe display name and do not impersonate another person or organization.
- Do not probe, disrupt, automate abuse of, or bypass access and moderation controls.
- Do not use the service to cheat, misrepresent authorship, violate school rules, or submit unlawful or harmful material.
- Report a suspected account compromise, privacy issue, or unsafe contribution through Contact.
Lessons are educational information, not professional medical, legal, or financial advice. Lesson and community content may contain mistakes; source links, authorship, and reporting options help users evaluate it. Features may change or be paused for safety, maintenance, or legal reasons.
We may limit or remove an account that violates these rules or creates safety, security, or legal risk. Community posts follow the report process below, while contributor resources follow their publishing, reporting, and removal process. We will provide a reasonable appeal process where appropriate. Material policy changes will receive a new version, and affected users may be asked to review and accept it before continuing.
Community Guidelines
Ask about a specific learning problem, answer constructively, and explain the reasoning. Community questions and replies appear publicly when posted. There are no private messages.
Do
- Stay connected to the course or concept and write in your own words.
- Distinguish facts, interpretations, personal study strategies, and uncertainty.
- Cite a reliable source when accuracy depends on outside information.
- Report content that is unsafe, invasive, harassing, inaccurate, or copied.
Do not
- Share personal contact details, school/location information, schedules, passwords, private records, or another person’s identity.
- Post harassment, threats, sexual content, hate, self-harm encouragement, dangerous instructions, spam, or attempts to move a student conversation off-site.
- Upload copyrighted work you do not have permission to use or fabricate sources.
- Give a diagnosis, emergency instruction, or individualized professional advice.
Reports are private. If a question or reply is reported, an administrator reviews the report and removes the post only when the administrator confirms the concern. Contributor applications are reviewed once; approved contributors publish their own complete resources directly. Published resources can be reported, corrected, archived, or removed. Use reporting for a specific item or Contact to send an appeal, privacy concern, or safety concern privately. Contact messages are not monitored around the clock and cannot provide an urgent response. If someone is in immediate danger, contact local emergency services or a trusted adult rather than waiting for a website response.
Contributor Terms
An approved contributor keeps the same student account and gains standing permission to publish their own complete resources. The application is reviewed once; each resource does not need a new pre-publication approval. Drafts remain private, editable, and deletable. Published resources change or come down through a request, report, or administrator action. Contributors may publish only while the contributor application is approved, contributor access is active, and the current Contributor Terms have been accepted. A resource archived after an administrator confirms a reported concern is not restored through the regular process; use Contact for an appeal or a corrected replacement.
- You retain ownership of original work you create.
- You give Students Teach Students a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, reproduce, display, format, caption, transcribe, and adapt the resource as reasonably needed to publish, moderate, correct, and make it accessible.
- You confirm that you created the material or have documented permission for every source, image, recording, person, and other protected element it includes.
- You must not reveal a school, precise location, schedule, contact detail, private record, or another person without the required permission.
- If a resource includes video, it also needs an accurate transcript/captions, safe framing, and any required participant/guardian releases before publication.
Contributor approval is publishing permission, not employment, academic credit, endorsement, payment, or a guarantee that every resource is accurate. Attribution stays with published work unless removal, anonymization, safety, or legal action requires otherwise. A separate contributor acceptance is recorded when an application is submitted.
Copyright and removal process
Report suspected infringement, unauthorized use of a person’s image or voice, intimate imagery, impersonation, or a privacy removal request through Contact and choose Copyright or Safety. Include the work, exact page or item, why you are authorized to report it, and a reliable way to reply. Do not send sensitive evidence unless requested through a secure channel.
The form accepts private reports now. Authorized reviewers can evaluate credible reports, preserve a limited record of actions, and disable or remove material where appropriate. The submitter may be notified when safe and lawful and offered a counter-explanation or appeal; repeat infringement may result in account termination. This form is not monitored around the clock. The project has not claimed that the form replaces registration of a formal DMCA designated agent; that registration and a counsel-reviewed process are required before broad user-video hosting.
